Douglas May
CPA, CFP
®

Douglas E. May, who is both a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Financial Planner™, serves as the firm's Chief Financial Officer.
Mr. May also serves as President of Trustee Support Services, which provides trust accounting and administration for non-corporate trustees; serves as the "Family CFO" for family limited partnerships, family limited liability companies, and family foundations; and performs beneficiary requested and court mandated forensic accountings for trusts and estates.
Doug also manages the firm's real estate practice, which he, along with managing partner Brad Galbraith, helped to develop. Rather than simply launching a real estate closing practice like so many other law firms in Florida, he and Brad endeavored to "re-invent" the closing process. In doing so, they have made real estate closings more predictable and less stressful. For example, before closing, a Duties and Deadlines Diagram™ is completed to be sure that all parties are informed about the contractual deadlines. They instituted detailed internal control and review procedures, unique to our practice. And, at closing, the traditional "stack" of confusing closing documents is neatly organized with explanations in our firm's Real Estate Portfolio Binders.

Education and Professional Experience
After graduating from Indiana University with a Bachelors of Science degree in accounting and finance, Doug served as a CPA for Big Five firm Price Waterhouse in New York City. He later served as an Investment and Financial Planning Advisor with Merrill Lynch. Additionally, Mr. May has served as the Chief Financial Officer and member of the Board of Directors of several private and public companies spanning several industries. During his tenure as CFO of a fully reporting public company, which acquired seven separate companies during that time, Doug managed every aspect of accounting and finance operations. Mr. May has been a frequent presenter on financial planning to CPAs and attorneys at conferences and seminars throughout the United States. He is also the co-author of Estate Planning for CPAs©, an extensive continuing education program that has been utilized by thousands of CPAs nationwide. Mr. May also served for many years as an officer in the United States Army Reserve. Doug is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Financial Planning Association, and the Indiana CPA Society.

Personal
Doug is married to Susan May, and they have two children, Nathaniel and Edith. Doug and Susan enjoy spending time with family and friends and almost all of the activities involved with raising their children. Doug is active in several local charities and organizations.
